I finally took the leap to my first real camera, and I'm really enjoying learning so far. The amanita was shot using just auto settings, but I played around with the settings for the bridge shot. Critiques/advice gratefully welcome

I got my first roll of film in 20 years developed, and this is far and away the best picture of the bunch

I've lived in the Portland metro for nearly 10 years and somehow never made it up to Cathedral Park before last weekend
The St. John's bridge, a blue steel art deco bridge with suspension towers that look like cathedral doors, is set in the lower right side of the image with the conifer-covered hills rising behind it. It's framed by branches of yellow leaves on the top and left side of the image

After a lot (A LOT) of trial and error, I think I finally succeeded at a slow shutter speed waterfall shot
One of the many waterfalls at silver falls State Park. The falls cascade over a rocky overhang that protects a railed path. The water hits rocks below and spreads out before flowing to a basin. Because of the slow shutter speed, the water is blurry, giving the appearance of fluffy strands

Did you know that a 10k can be harder than a marathon? Because I found that out today
A quarter marathon (it's a 10k I don't know why they're calling it a quarter marathon) medal for the "fueled by fine wine" race is wrapped around a stemless wineglass sitting in the grass. Also, if you live in San Francisco, the Pikmin Bloom scavenger hunt is actually really fun and the Pikmin window displays are darling. You should check it out if you have time, it's only about a 3 block radius from Union Square

Also, someone good at cell phone pictures help me with this technique: I shot with a slower shutter speed looking for the kind of fluffy appearance you get in pro shots of waterfalls, but I don't know how to account for all the extra light that gets let in as a result
The same angle shot as before, but the waterfall is blurry and fluffy and the sky is bright grey instead of bright blue. It's clearly overexposed

The 8th wonder of the world: the backside of water!!!!
Despite how the post describes it, this is just the side of water: tamanawas falls on Mt. Hood to be specific. A waterfall cascades over rocky cliffs. On the far side of the cliff, a mossy slop rises to meet it and then descends to the center of the frame. An overhang of rock gives the impression of a ceiling on the top of the image. Trees dot the top of the image, ascending from the left side

I can't believe it took me almost 9 years to get out to Central Oregon

The whole time walking up, I kept wondering why they called this rock formation "monkey face"

Then I made it to the other side and figured out why
A cliff takes up the right side of the image, in the center is a large pillar that is topped with a bulbous structure. The top has two large cutouts, the top one is shallower and the bottom one is deeper. The effect is strikingly similar to a monkey's face. There are a few groups of rock climbers on the summit and in the monkey's "mouth"
