I have also noticed a species of ant that is far, far smaller than any species I've seen before. (I recently moved to this area)
It has to be no larger than 1mm. This is a photo of it on pavement. When pavement looks like a craggy field of rocks, you know the photo is close up.

The Chocolate Zebras I got were a mix of shades of browns, and you can see that reflected in the babies. Milk chocolate and dark chocolate both here

that does sound more like mating behavior! or attempted mating, at least. honestly I'm not sure how long the mating act itself usually takes. but the males sure love to ride around on the females or even just grab and hold on for days. My Marbles do it a lot.
