The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy
Investors expect AI use to soar. That’s not happening
Recent surveys point to flatlining business adoption

Is this good?
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

Critical context for the DC shooting. The violence perpetrated against civilians by the US has come full circle; this time at home instead of in some distant country. How many more "terrorists" will our new campaign to kill fisherman in the Gulf create?

Incredible. . . We are living in a scam economy run by business idiots
I genuinely think @mrnikli.bsky.social may be one of the best business writers in history, and “Brainwash An Executive Today!” is one of the best written and insightful and funny business pieces of all time. A must read. Execs can be really stupid!

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

Seeing some false reports about the man who collapsed in the Oval Office.

It was *not* Novo Nordisk executive Gordon Findlay.

It was a patient who uses Lilly GLP-1 drug, per multiple sources. I hear he's OK now.
Trump has long been fixated on the "fat pill," the "fat drug," the "fat shot," the "fat killer" — you get the idea.

(He's also questioned if the drugs work.)

Today Trump will announce a deal with Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk in the Oval Office to lower the price of some of their drugs. More to come.
Trump, long fixated on ‘fat drug,’ to announce deal to lower its price
The president has cited the high cost of GLP-1 drugs, which help with weight loss, as his go-to example in his push to reduce U.S. drug prices.

Similar to demanding everyone on the internet practice message discipline in the name of supporting the leadership of the Democratic Party millions of people are supposed to accept fewer resources and more policing to *maybe* convince someone in the exurbs to *flip* their political beliefs. Nonsense

Big tech has been out of ideas for so long that they can't even come up with a new kind of financial crisis
quite literally everything i hear about the economics of this feels insane, especially given the big issue of the tools not doing what boosters say they will do. so many details make me feel very not good!

It would, and even baby steps would help. What benefit is there to me or my community if someone's trip to the ER turns into a fruitless debt collection effort, rather than payment to the hospital thereby keeping it open and properly staffed for when I need it?
Free healthcare to all residents of the US regardless of immigration status would rule, actually. Universal benefits for universal problems (having a body that can get sick or hurt)

I think more than anything else AI feels like a miracle to people with questionable literacy because it can read and write for you, and a lot of us who are highly literate underestimate how many of our society's leaders, esp in business, struggle with literacy.
It's pretty much mandatory at work that I appear to be using it, so I've doe a few functional things with it, and it's a moderate time-saver if used right. But nowhere near worth it's stock value, energy cost.

Then I realize there's a lot of people who simply can't write coherent paragraphs.
