Understanding patterns of #TB exposure and transmission is needed for targeted prevention strategies. In our latest pre-print, @petedodd24.bsky.social and I estimated the proportion of TB exposure to and transmission from sex and age groups for 177 countries.

A global analysis of patterns of tuberculosis exposure and transmission
Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health concern and the leading infectious cause of mortality globally. The disease exhibits strong prevalence patterns by age and sex, but the implications of these...

Well done @emilyakendall.bsky.social and team! Incredible work to generate this important data on people with minimal sputum #TB detection. Adds another piece to our understanding of those with very low sputum #bacillary load. Definitely one to dig into beyond the abstract! #TBSky #IDSky

Making research more #accessible is so important. I love what @climeresearchgroup.bsky.social has been doing with their publications - a short video to take away the key messages. Keep it up! One of my group's @ki.se has followed your lead! Give them a follow and take a look at their videos.
🧪 Contaminated TB cultures are often discarded — but they can still hold answers.

This study shows Xpert MTB/XDR testing could recover drug resistance data from them, detecting more cases, faster.

A simple change with powerful impact!

The recognition of asymptomatic #TB is both fascinating and worrying. The recognition of symptoms is the gate-keeper to so much of our public health response. Seems like another important argument for broader community access to diagnostic services!
About half of people with #TB are asymptomatic (aTB). Calls have been made to stratify treatment and estimate incidence based on aTB case definitions

In this preprint we raise concerns that symptoms are an inadequate & inconsistent classifier of TB state, being highly influenced by context

Congratulations to my colleague Johan Lundin on promoting the use of #machinelearning and #AI to expand #access to life saving diagnostics. We must continue to push hard for safe and equitable implementation! #UHC
AI can increase access to #CervicalCancer screening in low-resource settings, but the technology requires investments throughout the entire healthcare chain to be effective. New study from KI, Uppsala University and @helsinki.fi published in @bmj.com today 🧪 #GlobalHealth news.ki.se/ai-can-impro...

Great to see this published after the hard work in Stockholm and Cape Town! How should we think about aerosol detection of #tuberculosis? Is it a diagnostic test? Could it help us prioritize prevention activities? Much more work to do, but exciting nonetheless @climeresearchgroup.bsky.social @ki.se
