And if you want to lend your voice, SPEAK OUT. Join JCAC at the community speak out before TK Water’s town hall at 5:30pm Tuesday August 12th on 60 W Ashley Street. Go to city council meetings and SPEAK OUT during public comments!
August 12, 2025 at 1:15 PM
Is it really another day in Jacksonville if we aren’t watching the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office get everything they want while real community services suffer?
August 12, 2025 at 1:15 PM
But to call it WOKE? To call giving nearly half of a billion dollar budget to the cops WOKE is WILD work! Not to mention that Councilman Rory Diamond’s issues with the budget are fake issues.

What a time to zone out, right?
Trust us, we have choice words regarding Donna Deegan’s proposed budget. Throwing more money to JSO and increasing their pay while giving a shoestring budget to programs like parks, libraries, and housing services is WILD work.

We're joining the call for a boycott of Mambo's Cuban Cafe--because if Raul Arias wants to jeopardize his community, the least we can do is jeopardize his pocketbook. Jacksonville Deserves Better than a councilman who throws fellow immigrants under the bus and then sells their culture.
June 21, 2025 at 5:46 PM
Arias believes the people who make what he sells aren't worth feeding. But their ideas, tax dollars, and food? Delicious!
June 21, 2025 at 5:46 PM
With his yes vote, Ordinance 2025-0138 passed the council. If it's signed into law by the Mayor, anyone found to help an "alien"--whether it be a meal at a soup kitchen or emergency care at a medical center--will be subject to fines and penalties from local govt.
June 21, 2025 at 5:46 PM
Councilman Arias is perfectly happy to sell food from other cultures, but the people? He'd rather they starve.
June 21, 2025 at 5:46 PM
We the citizens of Jacksonville still have a voice in this! Speak out, speak loud, flood the inboxes of Mayor Deegan and all the city councilpeople! Make it known that Jacksonville Deserves Better than having our city be ruled by hate and fearmongering!
June 17, 2025 at 8:00 PM
If Mayor Donna Deegan vetoes this bill, it then goes back to the council--it will have to pass a 2/3rds vote to then become law. It didn’t even get that the first time.
(Do note that councilwoman Ju'Coby Pittman was not present to vote on the bill last Tuesday)
June 17, 2025 at 8:00 PM
Jacksonville Immigrant Rights Alliance has created an email script and a call script to contact the office of Mayor Donna Deegan and demand she not let Jacksonville be ruled by senseless purposeless hatred and fearmongering!

We must DEMAND Mayor Donna Deegan veto bill 2025-0138 and prevent this horrible bill from becoming local law!
SPEAK OUT AGAINST HATE - VETO 0138!

What’s Scaredy Cat Carrico scared of THIS time?
You’d have an easier time listing what he ISN’T scared of! But lately he seems to be scared of Matt Carlucci! That’s right, a member of his own party! On May 30th, News4Jax posted an article regaling the tense event between these two council members.
June 12, 2025 at 4:28 PM
In fact, make sure you flood the inboxes of everyone who voted on these bills! We need to stand with those who stand with us, and oppose those who stand for hatred and fear in Jax.
June 11, 2025 at 11:44 PM
We encourage EVERYONE to send these councilpeople your feedback--lets give Ms. Clark-Murray her flowers, and ensure Mr. Diamond knows that the people are NOT pleased with his actions.

Our Nice councilperson of the week is Tyrona Clark-Murray, who gave an impassioned and honestly absolute BANGER of a speech in opposition of the racist xenophobic 2025-0138 and everything it and Rory Diamond stand for! Incredible work Ms. Clark-Murray--we see you and we hear you!
June 11, 2025 at 11:44 PM
Recent polls even show that immigration is NOT a priority concern for residents, but it sure seems to be a priority concern for Rory Diamond and 11 of the 19 city councilpeople.

This bill CLAIMS to save taxpayers' money by ensuring it doesn’t go to ‘the wrong people,’ but in reality its going to COST taxpayer dollars to investigate these orgs, all while Jax residents have to fear that their support will be ripped away.
June 11, 2025 at 11:44 PM
Our Naughty councilperson of the week? Who else could it be but Rory Diamond! He introduced and stubbornly pushed for ordinance 2025-0138, to force organizations and nonprofits around Jacksonville into paranoia quadruple checking to make sure they aren’t knowingly assisting undocumented immigrants.
June 11, 2025 at 11:44 PM
Jax Deserves Better presents the Councilpeople of the Week! Who’s making the nice list? Who’s been naughty? We’ll give you our take on it!

Whether its starting their sessions hours before most people get off work, adding new rules to silence those who DO show, or ordering their police to expel--and sometimes brutally arrest--those brave enough to speak out, it’s becoming increasingly apparent they don’t want to hear their constituents.
June 10, 2025 at 3:16 PM
Jax Deserves Better than for our voices to be silenced and our participation to be unwanted.
Jacksonville’s City Council has done everything but outright state that they don’t actually want to hear what their constituents have to say.
June 10, 2025 at 3:16 PM
Where's Carrico?

This is one of the hundreds of times Kevin Carrico has not shown up to work while on the taxpayer's dime.

When you don't show up to work, you lose your job. When Carrico doesn't show up to work, he gets elected City Council President.

Make it make sense.

Jax Deserves Better than for our activists to be arrested for sitting down.
Let’s be clear--the people arrested at the city hall were not actively protesting anything.

Welcome to our page!
We’re Jax Deserves Better—a group forming to gather and share information about City Council and other elected officials, and find ways we can improve our city for all!
