The top 0.1 percent of American households saw their wealth grow by 90 percent, to a collective $23.3 trillion, from the fourth quarter of 2017, when President Trump signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, to the second quarter of 2025, according to the Federal Reserve. Americans for Tax Fairness, a tax policy advocacy group, found that the number of billionaires tracked by Forbes grew by nearly 40 percent, to 905 people, during the same period. "The wealthy became very wealthy in the U.S. You can attribute that to Trump," said Jan VanHogerwou, an executive at the Dutch shipyard Amels, while standing in front of the 74-meter Casino Royale, the largest vessel at the Fort Lauderdale show, which his company built.

1. We don't need the National Guard.
2. Saturday protests did not occur in the City of LA. They were in Paramount.
3. Trump doesn't care.
4. Trump is calling the protests a rebellion and using this pretext to trigger a law not used since 1965 that sidesteps the Governor.
5. Martial law is next.
Governors almost always control the deployment of National Guard troops in their states. But the directive signed by Mr. Trump cites "10 U.S.C. 12406," referring to a specific provision within Title 10 of the U.S. Code on Armed Services. Part of that provision allows the federal deployment of National Guard forces if "there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States."

The hallways outside the courtroom were absolutely lined with ICE agents. And immigrants were scared to leave, even though their cases were still open. What happened was that ICE agents then stormed into the courtroom, kicked out the attorneys, and detained everyone in the courtroom over the judge's objections. Really terrifying.

The Executive Order is especially insidious in that it is an attack not just on history, but on the very values of intellectual curiosity and engagement that vital democracies demand of their people. Were it to stand, it would be a grave disservice to future generations. Knowledge is power, and when that knowledge is censored or distorted, democracy itself is weakened. The Smithsonian museums and our national parks must be allowed to continue their missions without fear of political interference or ideological restriction.

In response, the government has acknowledged the error but said in a filing that because Abrego-Garcia is no longer in U.S. custody, the court cannot order him to be returned to the U.S. nor can the court order El Salvador to return him.

It's true that action movies are fiction. But the thing about fascist lies is that they are also fictions. A lot of fascism, as propaganda chief Goebbels was well aware, is making up stories. Conspiracy theories are absolutely central to fascism for this very reason; it is a movement and an ideology which is built on convincing people that they are in an exciting narrative which requires them to commit acts of unspeakable cruelty-for good.

The presidential library system is overseen by the Office of Presidential Libraries in the National Archives and Records Administration. The acting archivist of the United States and several senior staff members have resigned in recent days, according to media reports. The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Dorchester has closed until further notice, according to a message posted Tuesday to its website. "The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum is temporarily closed until further notice," the brief message stated. No explanation was given, and a spokesperson couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
