Northern Shovelers in flight — so nimble and tight in their formation. The way they can stay together and navigate their path through trees unscathed is absolutely amazing. They have been recorded reaching speeds up to 94 mph.

The northern entrance into Yellowstone between Gardiner and Mammoth Hot Springs will take your breath away. Took a short hike off the main entrance road to find this vista. Totally worth the steps.

Canada geese take to flight just after sunrise. My guess is there were 500+ geese on the lake yesterday morning. This flock was in the recently harvested soybean field. I was about 20 yards from them and when they launched, the sound was incredible. Definitely not a quiet species of bird.

Every morning at Oxbow, there’s about a five minute or less window when all of the birds take to flight before resettling on the water’s surface. Yesterday, the light was perfect to compliment the white egrets dancing up high.

Wind farms have always fascinated me visually. These images are from the Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility and Renewable Energy Center, located 16 miles east of Ellensburg in central Washington.
The 149 wind turbines at Wild Horse can generate up to 273 megawatts (MW) of electricity.
