Yeah, because of this context, it's probably not a great idea to include the $2,000 check as an example of something that is "speaking louder than [Trump's] words."
Every time Trump floats some "refund check" idea I see local news hits about "how it could work." Saw same thing with the "DOGE dividend" idea that never added up. Wonder if anyone sees them, doesn't get a check (bc it was a fake idea), gets angry www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSmJ...
How long would it take to to pay for Trump's $2,000 dividends?

You should not include Missouri on any "done deal" redistricting list. If opponents of the new map get the necessary signatures and the legal efforts to stymie the referendum fail, it is basically impossible for the new map to go into effect for the 2026 election cycle.
If you score remap shifts between safe/competitive seats as +/-0.5, here's how the count looks today, to my eye:
CA: Dem +4.5
MO: GOP +1
NC: GOP +0.5
OH: GOP +0.5
TX: GOP +4
UT: Dem +1
That leaves Republicans ahead by half a seat, w/ FL, IN & VA the biggest remaining variables.

I had no idea the new James Garfield Neflix series was based off "Destiny of the Republic" by Candice Millard.
I interviewed Millard (who lives in suburban Kansas City) in 2012. It is one of the best books about a president I have ever read.
Garfield would have been a top 10 prez if he lived:

This is really interesting. In Missouri, legislators were never going to be able to get enough votes for the map to go into effect right away (thus, subjecting the map to a referendum). So House members could pretty much vote how they wanted with no pressure or repercussions.
Interesting details on failed GOP push for a gerrymander special session in Kansas. State House Republicans were 6 votes shy of supermajority needed to call session, with 10 Republicans overall — including several committee chairs — refusing to back a session. They've now lost their gavels.

Given that People Not Politicians need around 106K signatures spread across six out of eight congressional districts, only GOP legal action will block referendum at this point.

Should give Missouri Republicans who have attached a gender affirming ban for most transgender minors to a ballot item repealing most of Missouri’s 2024 abortion rights amendment (which passed thanks to roughly 300K Trump voters backing it).
One major takeaway: Winsome Earle-Sears tried relentlessly to attack Abigail Spanberger with the same transphobic messaging Trump used against Kamala Harris.... and people just didn't care. It shows anti-trans messaging isn't an inflection point.

Worth noting that in 2021, then-71-year-old Roy Blunt told me that he wasn't 100% committed to spending most of his 70s serving in the Senate.
And in 2009, Kit Bond said he came MO politics as the youngest governor, and didn't want to leave as oldest senator.
