Mystery solved! This species description was based off of a single wing pulled from roadkill. Turns out its a hybrid.

Most of the new bird records were from the grassy lowlands, coasts, and villages of Fergusson. There may still be a couple more species hiding in the mountains though... #birds #PNG

None of our surveys on Fergusson would have been possible without the four Papua New Guinean co-authors on this paper: Doka Nason, Elimo Malesa, Serena Ketaloya, and Bulisa Iova.

Torishima island through the eyes of field biologists. Loved this youtube tour of the island! Its one of the few places where Short-tailed albatross breed.

NEWS: From Maui. Five ʻAlalā (Hawaiian Crow) get helicoptered up the mountain for their upcoming release. A highly exciting development for this extinct-in-the-wild species.
