The Things by Peter Watts is an amazing short story. The Thing from the viewpoint of the alien.
And now there's an amazing deluxe book edition of it, with UV illustrations. It comes with a UV flashlight.

The West Passage by Jared Pechacek.
Guillermo does Gormenghast.
Great character design.
Abandoned castles and dusty rooms, servants doing forgotten duties.
Interior illustrations based on weird marginalia in illuminated manuscripts.
Recommended. Highly.

Borrego Springs is a small town on the western edge of the Imperial Valley in southern California. Around it are metal sculptures of monsters, megafauna, people, horses. Here are some photos of them from a recent road trip. More here: www.flickr.com/photos/jason...

For a novel written in 1966, a surprising amount of bestiality in the first 60 pages. Funny so far. Would like to know if there's a connection between Barth and Pynchon.

Thanks, Gabino!
I've written an Elizabethan spy thriller.
What if Jason Bourne was played by Ray Winstone in 1590?
Walsingham is dead, his networks are being rolled up, and Nick's cover has been blown. From Brussels to Antwerp to London, it's fear, filth, and paranoia.

This is a really good work of urban fantasy set in 1949 London. A zippy read, not a doorstop like Jerusalem. In places, Moore reminds us that he can be a funny writer as well as a really good one. A great cast of characters, including Austin Osman Spare.

That could be the title of Chapter 9 of this great book, God: An Anatomy by Francesca Stavrakopoulou.
Sorry, that's a completely made up journal article, by the way.

Driving and rest stops: heading west on the 70, in Utah, heading up the San Rafael Swell, pull over for a rest stop. The driver goes to use the facilities, I walk 20 feet, and the vista opens up to classic western canyonland.

My parents had copies of the first couple of Firesign albums on reel-to-reel. They formed a big part of my childhood. I can still quote from a lot of them.
This book is good, a lot of background that helps explain the context of all those hours of weirdness that permeated my brainmeats.

If you're looking for a good indie bookstore today, I recommend Ghoulish Books. I just received books from them and it was a zippy response. They have a good online inventory. @ghoulish.bsky.social

The First Circle by Solzhenitsyn.
Very black ironic humor in parts - wasn't expecting that - and then a couple of chapters of Stalin alone at night, an aging paranoid psychopath aware that he's losing his edge. Very good, very chilling writing.
