My guide to surviving exhibitor halls at small/medium IT conferences 7/7

7: You don't need another water bottle or beer koozie. It just ends up in the landfill or a drawer. Socks are where it's at :)

My guide to surviving exhibitor halls at small/medium IT conferences 6/?

6: If you're like me, you get calls from multiple vendors a day. Write down the name of the vendors you talked to and a brief recap of what they offer, so when they do call, you don't need the intro pitch all over again.

My guide to surviving exhibitor halls at small/medium IT conferences 5/?

5: Don't be a swag jerk. Don't swoop in and start grabbing everything from every table. Ask the vendors if you can have that hat/socks/bottle. Most will be glad to get rid of it so they don't have to take it back with them.

My guide to surviving exhibitor halls at small/medium IT conferences 4/?

4: Vendors are obviously sales people, but are looking at connecting with people that they can have an ongoing relationship with. Don't waste their time, acting like you are interested just to get your hands on that Yeti.

My guide to surviving exhibitor halls at small/medium IT conferences 3/?

3: Find at least one vendor that offers something that you hadn't considered and hear them out. Maybe they won't be a good fit for your needs, but they could get you thinking of something to look into.

My guide to surviving exhibitor halls at small/medium IT conferences 2/?

2: For the vendors you have selected, have a TLDR script of what projects you are looking at and whether that vendor can assist with you. Feel good? Get contact information. Don't feel good? Tell them it's not a fit but thanks

My guide to surviving exhibitor halls at small/medium IT conferences 1/?

1: If possible, find out which vendors will be there ahead of time, and do some research into them. Do they offer something you are looking for or interested in? If not, skip them, and leave the swag on the table.

I'm all for not glamorizing criminal activity, but much like an organization's front line needs to be aware, so does the public. Naming an event '2025-US/SLTT012' doesn't have the same grab as 'Scattered Spider' when alerting the public on what to be aware of. Rock and hard place kind of position.

Teams and Zoom meeting: 'When you're done, we're done. Peace out!'

Webex meeting: 'Why don't I just stick around for a while JUST in case you want to use me again. Oh, and when you reboot your computer, I'll open up to keep you company. 'Don't open at login'? Why would you want that option?'

This can not be overstated enough: This is a major national and global cybersecurity risk. Without appropriate CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) managament and updates, we don't know what flaws exist, how serious they are, and how to take action to mitigate them.
BREAKING.

From a reliable source. MITRE support for the CVE program is due to expire tomorrow. The attached letter was sent out to CVE Board Members.

Make no mistake. Losing funding to MS-ISAC and CIS is a BIG deal. These organizations help us help ourselves. Decreased cost savings at the Federal level could very well lead to increased costs at the Ransomware level.
