Today is White Arm Band Day, which commemorates the period in 1992 during the Bosnian Genocide during which Serb nationalist troops forced Bosniaks, Croats & other non-Serbs in Prijedor to mark their homes & persons w/ white sheets, after which they & their families were exterminated...

a good part of me thinks that in addition to everything else, the reason they are scrubbing these stories is they do not want disadvantaged kids to believe they can aspire to anything other than their designated “black” or “hispanic” or “woman” job
This profile has been scrubbed from the site. Rose Ferreira grew up without reliable electricity, immigrated to NY, then survived homelessness and cancer on her way to NASA. She was so moved by images from the Webb telescope she wept. This is what’s at stake

Paying employees to cycle to work reduces emissions obviously, but also helps reduce healthcare costs, helps reduce the size of car parks needed, reduces fatalities, reduces wear and tear on roads, clears up traffic for emergency services and public transport. Win win win.
Commuting by bicycle in Belgium pays off as employees earn compensation for every km they ride. 1 in 6 employees commute by bike and get a bicycle allowance of €0.28/km. People cycling to work in 2024 earned an average of around €460 net per year (some as high as €810), up 20% over the past year.
Belgian commutes pay off: Employees earn up to €810 for cycling to work
One in five people in Flanders commuted by bike and received compensation last year, but this figure is significantly lower in Brussels and Wallonia.

Can’t be repeated often enough

‘The UK’s creative industries are vital to the economy. Valued at £124bn, they are worth more than the life sciences, aerospace and automotive industries combined. Arts and culture alone contribute an impressive £34.6bn.’

I’m also here for glode or glid instead of glided, and strove instead of strived. We’ve lost many of our strong verbs and these days simply tack on an ‘-ed’ in the past tense (texted? Why not ‘toxt’?).

US English retains more of them: there is poetry in ‘dove’, as opposed to ‘dived’.
Scrempt is a tremendous word! I’m here for it

It appears Musk came to US on a student visa, did not attend school and worked illegally here.

If he lied in his subsequent immigration applications he committed a felony level crime and could be stripped of his citizenship and security clearances.

Musk's brother: "We were illegal immigrants."
What’s amazing about Musk claiming the reason he’s in America is the H1B visa is that it isn’t true. According to story below, he came here on a student visa, worked illegally and then got an H1B. He should release his immigration records to clear this up.

Investors in Musk’s first company worried about “our founder being deported” and gave him a deadline for obtaining a work visa.
