Einstein's words above are in the opening pages of Living Philosophies (1931). The book I hold in my hands was well-worn when I purchased it, even more worn now. I love books, especially books that carry forward the voices of people "upon whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends"... -jw

AND -- when you read Einstein's passage (above) PLEASE SUBSTITUTE PEOPLE or HUMANITY for "men". This was written in 1931 when we would have been told "men" meant everyone -- but it doesn't. The language excludes. I'm working on a piece related to this. Come visit me here: janettewatt.substack.com

According to AI, I must avoid fixing any problem for you and not compare my experiences to yours because that would make you feel like I am minimizing or dismissive. Instead, I should offer this: “Clark, take the time to feel what you need to feel. I’m here but only to listen.” Better? Nailed it?

Poet Anna Akhmatova in turn was inspired by Pushkin when she wrote "Willow" - and so our world goes #poets #writers #artists and #musicians and, and, and, ... inspired and inspiring. Translators struggle to capture Akhmatova's voice and still it's beautiful www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazi...
Willow
—Aleksandr Pushkin And I matured in peace born of command, in the nursery of the infant century, and the voice of man was never dear to me, but the breeze’s voice—that I could understand.
