The Govt's rationing speclialist (aka MSD) is overheating trying to constrain benefit spending, but the number of people on a working-age benefit continues to sail way above forecasts. We are watching a permanently scarring event here. Grim.

It would be ironic if my glass half empty takes on the NZ economy proved to be overly optimistic. But, the latest benefits data is really bad. I expected that yellow line to continue to trend down, but, errrm, it isn't.

Why hasn’t Luxon gone to COP 30?

Oh..

New Zealand’s adoption of a 'no additional warming' target, rather than pursuing more ambitious reductions, was "an embarrassing and humiliating capture by industry". Says a climate expert at #COP30 in Brazil.

'Embarrassing’: International climate expert at COP30 scorns NZ’s methane target
A veteran climate scientist says it's "unbelievable" that New Zealand has gone to the annual climate summit with a weaker target as global temperatures continue to rise.

What would be shocking would be to see any self-reflection from media about the weeks they spend tearing women politicians apart.
What would be shocking would be to see commentary from privileged men in positions of power saying out loud misogyny is a problem - a crisis - and committing to action.

Are you sick of this govt blaming everyone, but themselves?

Do you want to convince thousands that a better future is possible?

Your creativity, knowledge, and labour is invaluable.

Now is your chance to use it for good:

The Greens will repeal the Regulatory Standards Bill.

But ACT won't give up.

They will spend millions into fooling voters that free market capitalism is the only future left for New Zealand.

However, you can help stop ACT from getting even more power.

Coup. The word is coup.
There were 159,000 written submissions on the Regulatory Standards Bill (on top of over 23,000 submissions last year) - numbers that are second only to the Treaty Principles Bill in NZ’s history.

More than 98% of public submissions were opposed.

There’s a word for this, but it’s not democracy.
