Over one thousand children in the US died from Covid, so silly me thinks that's more important.

"COVID-19 quickly became the seventh leading cause of death for 1- to 17-year-olds from 2020 to 2022 and killed an estimated 1086 children."

1. A new guide has been released by some of the top names in Democratic politics encouraging Dems to act more like Republicans on "identity and cultural issues."

It becomes clear exactly what that means: queer and trans people.

I argue against it in my latest.

Douthat writes that 2024, when Harris lost by 1.5% of the popular vote, was "an ideological referendum and progressivism lost." I wonder why he didn't view the 2020 election, when Trump lost by 4.5% of the popular vote, as a far more significant loss for conservatism.

Comparing the relation between the presidential election results in 2020 and 2024 with the post-election commentary is a fascinating exercise.

2020
Biden 81,283,501 popular votes, 51.3%
Trump 74,223,975 popular votes 46.8%

2024
Trump 77,302,580 49.8%
Harris 75,017,613. 48.3%

Sounds like Republicans ought to get all the Republicans who form the Republican majorities in the Republican-led House and the Republican-led Senate together to pass the budget that Republicans wrote with the Republican White House and that Republicans now insist absolutely must be passed.

If only there were a fail-safe process for killing the bacteria raw milk can harbor making it perfectly safe to drink
It's really sad watching this happen over and over.

Raw milk can cause miscarriages because it can carry harmful bacteria, most notably Campylobacter, E. coli, Listeria monocytogenes, and Salmonella. These pathogens are normally killed during pasteurization.

NEW from me — FEMA staffers say the response to the Texas floods is horrifyingly slow, and it may be because of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem's recent increased control over how the agency spends money.

It's also not true that RFK Jr has identified a real problem but proposes the wrong solutions.

The "problem" he's identified is that Americans are unhealthier than we've ever been (false) and that prescription drugs are making kids sad, autistic and trans (deranged).
I am really tired of these "well, you gotta hand it to them..." pieces.

It is hard to find anything accurate in the MAHA report, and the quality is appalling.

They are correct that the evidence supports that a far greater fraction of Americans' diet comprises hyperpalatable ultraprocessed foods.

I'd go with like "many of the pedophiles who flew with Trump on Jeffrey Epstein's planes are the same people who are also trying to cut health care for Americans. Part of the reason they want us poor is so we can't fight back when they rape our kids."
The craziest thing about this fight between Trump and Elon Musk is that Republicans are trying to take away health care from 16 million people to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.

Thank God somebody brought this up. I read references to it in a very stupid pseudoscientific piece in the New Yorker last month, and the retconning of the lax Swedish lockdown strategy makes my blood boil. It's not that long ago: they had so many excess deaths that they changed policies, months in!
Pretty egregious error from this book: The authors say Swedish deaths fell by 2.3% during the pandemic, proving that the country's lax lockdown strategy worked.

But they misread their source: Mortality is only down if you remove the COVID deaths.
