Honestly, calling it a mistake is giving them too much credit. This is by design. They are trying to deport as many people as possible, regardless of their legal status or criminal guilt.

At least the robber barons gave us pretty libraries! Elon Musk has given us… the cybertruck.
The 1880/90s are being referenced in this tariff speech by Trump. The wealth inequality during that time in the U.S. was stratospheric. There was indeed wealth, but it was held by the richest and the government, not the people.

If this happened to an American student who wrote an op-ed while on Fulbright in Turkey, it would be an international incident. Congresspeople would demand the student be returned w/in the hour. Their intellectual, professional, political, & personal integrity would be defended
