Easily done. I used to be an expert in this area (bit rusty now) and the system is complicaged enough for anyone to get confused!

True, though most people in care homes are of an age where they’re likely to get AA instead of DLA/PIP, and AA doesn’t have a mobility element.

AA does not have a mobility component.

Ah, I see Kate has beaten me to it! I’m very fond of Embassy shoes. They’re pricey, but (for me) just about within the “worth the occasional splurge“ bracket…

Not sure they’ll have the exact thing you’re after, but Embassy shoes are rather fabulous. embassylondon.co.uk

This article is still up. The record doesn’t look very “corrected” to me. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/02...

May I suggest adding @mrchrisaddison.bsky.social to this list? In particular he’s a keen follower of women’s cricket, which I find often gets overlooked on here.
November 20, 2025 at 11:21 AM
So he doesn’t like people… talking to each other?

My birthday is at the end of November, so I feel your pain!
November 18, 2025 at 3:32 PM
That’s brilliant!
November 18, 2025 at 3:21 PM
That sounds great. I never understood the rationale for making colleagues socialise. I did of course make friends through work and we used to (and still do) meet up in our own time, but enforced corporate jollity is ghastly!

I’m happily retired now, but in the last few years of working I’d reached the “couldn’t give a toss“ stage of my career, which meant that (among other things) I was quite open about my loathing of work social events. Flatly refused to go to everything, including Xmas parties. It was great!

This is clearly the start of a discussion that will end with "...and most of all, you've let yourself down".

Hoppers (south Indian/Sri Lankan) also has a few branches now.

Aw, I love this type of thing! Some of my favourites are the classic “Murder, She Wrote” episodes set in the UK or Ireland, where clearly no one in the production team has ever set foot outside the US. I used to wonder what Angela Lansbury thought of it, given that she was originally from the UK!

I was going to say cheese or crisps but I see I’ve been beaten to it, so I’ll just add chocolate biscuits. That’s the 3 main food groups covered.

I’m colour blind and it looks brown to me. Hope that helps.😀

As a retired white collar public sector lawyer I’m not sure how I fit in here, but for the record I‘m finding Labour’s approach to immigration horrific.

“Graham“ is a troll. I suggest it’s best to ignore him.
November 15, 2025 at 10:01 PM
All of the above! And while we’re at it, can we also do away with the use of condescending expressions of “comfort” when people die? I particularly loathe “everything happens for a reason”. No it doesn’t, sometimes life is just shit.

Ditto Halloween. I know it’s always existed here, technically, but we never celebrated it in a significant way until American marketing got in on the act.

A friend of my mother’s left his wife for a 17 year old girl when he was in his 50s. This was 30 years ago and at the time we thought it was crazy, but in a “ha ha how ridiculous“ way rather than “ugh, that’s creepy”. I think (hope) it might be different now.
November 13, 2025 at 10:38 PM
Had to think twice about this. For countries that measure temperature in Celsius (ie just about the whole world apart from the US), 30+ degrees is pretty hot!
November 13, 2025 at 10:16 PM
Glad there‘s been a sensible outcome at last; I know the place well. Though as I understand it, this wasn’t so much a Nimby problem (local people were perfectly happy with the change) as a “the council is being ridiculous“ problem?
