Scientists are likely debating this. That's what scientists do. That's how knowledge progresses. Most scientists would be healthily skeptical of the "aliens" hypothesis, but they can't rule it out entirely. The debate becomes not whether aliens exist, but what evidence is required to recognise them

That's not just a joke. One solution proposed to address the Fermi paradox is that aliens probably know we exist, but haven't bothered to contact us for the sames reason that the UN and nation-states don't establish diplomatic relations with ant colonies.

Believing intelligent life exists elsewhere in the cosmos isn't that hard. It's the idea that humans could be classified as "intelligent living beings" is what I'm struggling with.

It is the Western mindset that says nothing is real or experienced unless the (usually white) gatekeepers of the mainstream decree it to be so. I've been lectured to about what it means to be trans by white straight cis men.

Australia is now, to all intents and purposes, a one-party state. The ALP and the LNP are just different factions of the same right-wing party. Maybe the LNP faction is a little more obvious about being complete shitheads, but at least they're honest about being shitheads.

I am all for human rights...In fact, I won't shut up about it. But some of the people in jail aren't human. They really are the vilest of monsters who are in jail because it's the closest thing we have to a cage to keeping the rest of us safe. A hug and happy therapy won't cure them.
