Funny not funny that the price of house that we can reasonably afford hasnt changed in just over 7 years despite our incomes generally increasing. Houses in our city have gone from just beyond our reach to averaging double. I hate it here.

Rachel Gilmore on the anti-DEI movement: "I think that to attack these notions is a dog whistle to the worst elements of society that are seeing a slide towards a more fascistic world. And every politician who engages in that should be ashamed of themselves."

This is the modern day version of salting the earth of Cathage, a place where things still don’t grow.

This is just the mild part of genocide, saying to all Palestinians that their way of life is gone like they should be.
Video footage shows Israeli bulldozers forcibly uprooting hundreds of Palestinian olive trees in Qaryut, a village south of Nablus in the occupied West Bank.

This is the opposite of what we need 😩 innovation, competition, and economic growth can happen within the confines of stopping climate change for crying out loud!!!
“The new measures — if approved in a confidence vote that could come as early as next week — would allow a cabinet minister to exempt the testing of any product or service from almost any law, in order to encourage innovation, competitiveness or economic growth.”

Althia Raj: Mark Carney is quietly giving sweeping new powers to his ministers
Sneaking a change of this magnitude into a 600-page bill that will not get parliamentary scrutiny raises a red flag, Althia Raj writes.

Whenever I see a creator getting piled on for using (or being suspected of using) AI, all I can think about is how we're willfully making the destruction of our industry as painless and convenient as possible for billionaires and VC firms.
My literal 14 year old niece has complained about people demanding to know if her art is AI.

At some point people need to stop and take stock of the harm they are doing by pointing fingers without reasonable proof.
If you consistently ask artists if their work is generative AI, you're actually being more discouraging than generative AI is.

Community: Can we put in a protected bike lane to get more people cycling.

City: No, we'll lose parking spots.

When you post your #SpotifyWrapped, you’re not just doing free advertising for a company that exploits artists, recruits for ICE, and invests in AI war machines.

You’re actively celebrating the fact that you’re being surveilled and participating in your own surveillance.

Maybe … don’t do that?

Do you put your sleep playlist on around the same time every night except the night there was a late night civil disobedience action in your town? Gotcha.

Do you listen to kids music for the same 15 minutes every day? I know when you take your kids to school.

Breakup playlist? I can assume…

When I say Spotify is Surveillance, I don’t just mean it’s creepy that they are tracking what music you listen to and using that data to serve ads.

I mean your Spotify data is deeply intimate and can be used to glean information about you like your daily habits, your moods, and more.

Ok, but: Smith and Ford are both trying to limit health care in direct or indirect ways, UPC’s have brought up abortion bans, and both premiers absolutely refuse to protect the earth.

We aren’t better, Canada. We are also failing to make our governments work for us and not megacorps.
I'll just leave this here. Credit free Radio Canada.

Sure, they've made an environmentally catastrophic mass hallucination disinformation plagiarism Clippy that will destabilize the world, but also their other goal is to replace human workers entirely and let us humans starve. A boycott of AI is the most important boycott of your entire life.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

If you're not, listen to this.

Get a guitar or some drums, or a trumpet. Pick up a brush, a pencil, some clay or a welder.

Just make shit. It doesn't have to be good (eventually it will be) just make music, art or write or whatever.

It's literally never been more important.

I'm not interested in "I told you so."

A lot of people voted Liberal because they were terrified of Poilievre and his gang. I get that.

But Carney's who we got, he's being a weak leader, pushing policies that are harming the vast majority of us and it's time to just admit he sucks and push back.

Super cool that we've got a deal for a path towards a pipeline that's tied to a carbon capture project, as if that makes it okay

when carbon capture one of the most expensive and least effective options for addressing climate change, and oil companies often use it to EXTRACT MORE OIL!!!!

Genuinely feels like there's been a coup within the Liberal party thanks to Carney and his bros.

Not to say Trudeau's Liberals were much better (they bought a pipeline!) but Carney is a full-blown red tory and I'm shocked more Liberals aren't outraged their party has been usurped like this.
