DYKES FOR TRANS RIGHTS

Usually looking at birds. @jamielovezbirdz (IG)
Tks to @reclaimtheagenda.bsky.social for inviting me to contribute to 16 Blogs for #16days. I revisit the roots of this campaign, & the many voices who were part of starting this transnational movement. I end my post by naming those who were part of launching the campaign in 1991. #16Days #16DaysNI

Such a lovely bunch of people to spend time with at a holiday party. Thank you to @tonihaastrup.bsky.social for helping me to showcase the fancy vegan treats on offer, as one must. Cheers also to a party with non-alc options aplenty. 🥂

So glad that @kevinguyan.bsky.social joined us in @uompols.bsky.social this week! Really appreciate his work complicating how and why we collect queer data. Grateful that he also took some time for cuppa with a group of staff and students in a very festive Christie's Bistro!

Gearing up for another day of panels at the Lesbian Lives 2025 conference at CLAGS in NYC. #lesbianlives2025

I'm in New York City for a couple of conferences and seeing pockets of resistance everywhere, from the displays of banned books in libraries to the abolish ice graffiti on the streets.

In my brief critical reflection for
@politicsgenderj.bsky.social
I argue for moving beyond rhetoric to meaningfully engage with LGBTQ communities in WPS efforts, and what this means in terms of practical steps for creating space for queer perspectives in peacebuilding.

This is the quote I want to share at the beginning of any course I'm teaching about human rights, the international system and the UN.

Thank you Grace Lee Boggs, who died this day a decade ago, for your 70 years of activism and writing.

Started meeting some local puppers through the BorrowMyDoggy app since I miss dog walking and want to start exploring more neighborhoods in the city. This is Rita. We're friends.

We are able to offer concrete recommendations for monitoring the Colombian WPS NAP:
August 20, 2025 at 5:02 PM
For about the past year and a half Laura Gisselly Beltrán Estepa and I have been working on a policy brief about meaningful ways to engage with lesbian, bisexual and transgender women while implementing Colombian's first WPS National Action Plan. Please read and share. #queeringWPS

I always roam the poetry section when I go to the library. One of Andrea’s books found me on my most recent visit last week.
I have some of their books but hadn’t read this one. Mourning their death tonight, while also loving this serendipity. Andrea is such a wonderful queer gift to this world.

As someone who has always been obsessed with orcas I did love learning they are among the few creatures who experience menopause. Matriarchal menopause.
July 13, 2025 at 11:06 AM
Devoured this in three days. What next? Preferably something from a queer feminist woman’s perspective that also grapples with with menopause and HRT. Ready to skip the discussions about the conundrums about how pleasing men and performing patriarchy are a big part of the peri/menopause journey.

As I’m sitting in my garden reading @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social, I realize I do agree that gardens are in some ways the opposite of war. Gardens/gardening are a way of being in place, nurturing a future. Gardening can mean care and growing, rather than immediate and often irreversible destruction. 2/

I have many students who have families in countries currently being bombed. I always bookend my student meetings with questions of how are you/how will you care for yourself. I suggest a walk along the viaduct here in Manchester. I often ask: can you see plants? be near water? eat something nice? 1/
