I know there are several structural reasons for this (US parties aren’t membership orgs, primaries give reps their own base of support, etc) but it still feels like leaders don’t use the tools they do have available (committee assignments, joint fundraising) as much as they might.

Our current health care system has many flaws, but it remains true that purchasing insurance is a much better way of managing risk than trying to figure it out yourself. In many ways, Medicare for All is just a bigger form of insurance with a more accountable insurer

Doesn't even have to be valid reasons. I see so many people assuming corruption is the reason for a bad vote when it's just a combination of immorality and bad information!

It’s obviously oversimplified and this example doesn’t tell us much but it’s because Americans instinctively feel (know?) their system is corrupt. So posts like this, while being mostly nonsense, confirm their prior suspicion.

This is basically Republican economics on everything. No shared contributions to a common benefit - just everyone out for themselves and let the chips fall where they will.

I’m not saying he was right when he wrote it a month ago. I’m saying the Senate Democrats made him correct by ending the shutdown with very little to show for it.

Kind of remarkable King was a lead negotiator for the Dems since he’s been voting with the Republicans to reopen the government with no deal from the beginning.

Undocumented immigrants are barred from owning a gun (fun 2nd Amendment exception) and even though they’re obviously stirring up trouble with citizens and lawful residents as well, Black and Latino Americans have significantly lower rates of gun ownership.
