Anyway we are who we are and there is no logical reason why. Some people try to construct one, and so become monsters or depressed or both. Most of us in some way embrace that this just is the one life we have and do our best to live it well. That’s why, despite so much, loving people is a wonder.

I see almost everything he wrote if it’s staged nearby. It’s always hard stuff so a lot of productions aren’t great but I like nearly all of them anyway. Tom Stoppard has done more than any other author to help me process the nature of our general thrownness in the world.
