My main sources are newspaper reports from the 1870s, with a smattering of other fragments of information. I'll be talking about this in my Argonauts book, and hope to write up a longer article with more details. If you email my Univ of Guelph e-mail I can give you more specific references.

And the city of Toronto championship meant so much that in 1901 the Argos prioritized it over the dominion championship (8 years before the Grey Cup was donated to be its trophy). They beat UofT for the city title with a full lineup, then sent a mix of reserves and regulars to lose to Ottawa College
