Painting is still brutal without an airbrush or any skill, but look, the scales almost turned out!

Very happy with the eyes and snail though and the construction went reasonably well. Can't wait to get him in the test tank tomorrow.

Gordon, the roseysided dace(eating a snail).

The mk 3 (Norman) was unfortunately lost at sea when I stupidly tried to pitch him at a big lay down and he got snagged on one of the branches. However he looked great in the water and his hook certainly held firm, inspiring the mk 4 (Gordon): a Rosysided Dace eating a snail. WIP

With the Mk 3 I finally have a working version of my "Neddy Nibbler" plug version of the famous "Ned Rig" soft plastic

Still some improvements to make to the design, also I need to just get much better at making them so they don't look like dog shit. But I'm happy with the progress so far.

The big shots use CNC machines and 3d software to make aluminum molds to pour soft plastic into, but amateurs can easily make silicone molds and stuff like that. Fun way to experiment with different ideas for actions and stuff.

Heh, well most people don't make their own lures, though a lot of fly fishermen seem to make their own flies and those can be very beautiful.

But yeah, I like the idea of making experimental wood lures and soft plastics.

Trying to get good at making Shiners and Daces first though. I also have silly ideas for some panfish resembling crankbaits that work with pectoral fins instead of lips, including a "spawning pair" clacking one inspired by one of Nathan Marling's coolest lures.

What does this have to do with dragonfly nymphs? Well, my original and main intent is to paint up and add little hair or rubber "fins" to my "Neddy Nibblers" to make them look like different species of minnow, shiner, and dace. However, a dragon fly nymph also kinda looks like a Ned rig.

lol, I didn't watch one. I've just been learning how to make my own fishing lures after I got obsessed with it watching Marling Baits channel.

I have this idea for a segmented, wooden version of a "Ned rig" based on an other lure maker's experiment. My early attempts at a prototype.

YES I am a dragonfly nymph and YES I do breathe water with my butt that I can also fart out for jet propulsion. What are you, some kinda tough guy?

Top Minnows are really a kind of Killifish despite their name, but they do hang out near the top of the water more than other small fish do.

Even when their coloration looks a more drab yellow-black-white ensemble they look pretty. But this guy's garish, deep blue stripe and spots are so elegant.

Male Fathead minnows are like the ogres of the Minnow/Shiner/Dace world.

Look at this beefy boy, look at the SPIKES on his head.

For being a pretty basic, normal, dark stripe down the side kind of shiner, this dusky Shiner manages to have pretty enough scales to really earn the right to a more poetic name like "The Dusky Shiner".

I can't get to the end of that post without just hearing this noise and thinking of this. It's physically impossible for me. My brain refuses to waste calories trying to pretend any sense is being made.

A Rough Silverside
and then a Golden Silverside.

My contention is that the fish namers lost the plot a little on the latter.

That's clearly a Smooth Goldside.
