Epstein and Maxwell funded and were on the board of Seed Media Group, which created and ran Science Blogs.

The Science Blogs. The premier network of science communicators.
hasn't been enough reporting on his creepy science funding, tbh.
The Epstein stuff is always so amazing to me because it's like "yes he was a sex criminal but if you can get past that, he was also an avowed eugenicist"

Profits from scientific publishing are eye-watering, costing us billions. In ‘The Drain of Scientific Publishing’ (arxiv.org/abs/2511.04820), (building on ‘The Strain of Scientific Publishing’ doi.org/10.1162/qss_a_00327) we show how it is harmful – and unnecessary.

One idea I’ve been playing with about our current moment is that part of the impetus for Trumpism comes from a critical fraction of capital owners who decided that dealing with climate isn’t worth the costs. But *not* dealing with it requires rejecting the whole principle of rational policymaking.

It is absolutely insane that the City Administrator, who makes $300K+/yr, couldn’t answer this question.

I think cable is very bad and drives partisan divisions but imo early cable was also the *end* of the historic post 60s era of cultural fragmentation in the US. The personalization aspect of cable was aimed at existing world of magazine based subculture, which cable embrace-extend-extinguished.
A single shared source of truth is essential for a functioning democracy.

Without it you’re left with fragmentation, polarisation and a perpetual culture war where the discourse focuses on what divides us rather than what we have in common.
