We should stop the boats because it's dangerous, and we should stop the scapegoating of immigrants because it's wrong and cruel.

Controlled migration is good for the country, helps build our economy and diversity strengthens our communities. (1/6) 🧵

Sir Keir Starmer branded Reform's policy requiring those granted indefinite leave to remain to reapply under far tougher criteria as 'racist'.

Excellent substack. The way more and more rt wing press use, “writing designed to stoke those feelings, to hit her readers’ mental triggers for fear and anxiety” is disgusting.
Everyone who resists this rt wing rhetoric should call it out at every opportunity…before it is too late.

Breaks the heart to read the replaying of moral panic golden oldies from the law and order scares of 1960s USA and 1970s UK. Dracula like rising from the grave again despite effective rebuttals like this article
Lies, damn lies, and Isabel Oakeshott's statistics
How much should you believe a column on crime in the UK from a woman who decamped to Dubai?

This is so true. Apathy to human suffering and the absence of empathy and compassion are the things that threaten the values I hold. In Gaza certainly but increasingly across the world and it is growing here in UK.
youtube.com/watch?v=JIYk... “Apathy 2 human suffering caused the Holocaust yet today it is INFLICTED by those who suffered in the past. This is the greatest irony of this cent. THUMPS UP TO EVERY MARCHER FOR HUMANITY! Today, it’s happening to the Palestinians, tomorrow,it can happen to us!” #Sydney

I am at a loss over the hatred of migrants. Friday I was driving a woman who was married to a refugee and has two children with him to a hosp apt. She was celebrating the protests and making the rt wing trope allegations and assertions. Media coverage is driving this. We must do better.

Democracy dies when leaders treat laws like suggestions and power like a throne. Trump’s attacks on courts, press, and elections aren’t politics, they’re authoritarianism. It’s time to #StopTrumpDictatorship and rise up to #SaveDemocracy before the Constitution becomes a memory.

1 in 5 of the UK’s care workforce have a non-British passport.

Starmer would have us believe these carers are the “squalid” result of a “failed experiment”.

I say they do vital, necessary, humane, skilled work and they are worth their weight in gold.

I worked in and around social care for over 40years. If it were easy to recruit or ‘grow our own’ care workers from the UK there wouldn’t be a permanent and severe shortage of workers. It is a highly skilled but low paid profession, with punishing shifts that people don’t want. That can’t change.

When did politicians get the idea that ‘nothing is off the table’ is a good line?

At best it spells weakness, at worst it spells amorality.

My question is rhetorical though. We all know the answer is ‘June 2016’.

It's called #Vote4Democracy. Please use the tag. It helps pull the campaign together & track its progress.

It needs lots of you to get posting #Vote4Democracy messages. The more people, the better.

Living in Scotland, I have a political option beyond Tory and Labour. I am however a proud socialist and I am disgusted at the stance this UK government has taken against disabled people. They don’t deserve power. An uprising of any socialists left must stop this cruelty. ENOUGH!

I moved to a ‘fixer up’ house last summer. Several months of disruption, then a break for the festive period. Today that disruption starts again 🥺. But I have a roof, I have heat and food, I have friends and reasonable health. I try to help people who don’t. Surely that shouldn’t be unusual. Onwards

Everyone has a different Christmas. So to people old and young; working, resting, recovering, planning; to those in families, with friends and those alone; I wish you safety, good health, peace, kindness and great memories past, present or for the future. I wish there was peace on Earth!
