Thinking of my grandfathers on the 80th anniversary of VE Day—one a gunner in the Royal Navy, the other in the Black Watch. They, their comrades, and their families back home sacrificed so much and all played their part in defeating fascism and securing our freedom. Something to be forever proud of.

I'm helping to put stuff together for a special event on Tony's life and work, and I'm reminded of this quote, which seems very apt.

It was an honour to attend the thanksgiving service for Tony’s remarkable life and legacy. His absence is deeply felt, but his values continue to inspire. A mentor to many, including me, Tony’s 40+ year career bridged divides and earned him the title of 'Mr Greater Manchester.'

Five years ago on Christmas Eve, we lost a very good friend and comrade in Andy Harland. This is a copy of the eulogy I read at his funeral. I can't believe how fast those years have gone, my thoughts are with Team Harland (Claudette, Emmett, Nina-Simone, and Andy's family).
