Sadly, that isn't true. A good example of a big bug in a very popular system is the cassette circuitry in the pre-1980 Radio Shack computers. The early Radio Shack computers were notoriously unreliable. The volume control setting was critical. And even with the volume control correct there were times when the thing still didn't work. The result was a lot of very frustrated TRS-80 owners. Once the fault was recognized several companies offered software and hardware to correct the problem. One of the best "mistake fixes" is the Data Dubber for The Peripheral People. This small black box contains some additional electronics that clean up the signals used in the TRS-80 cassette circuits.

Newland Archer seems more progressive than his era on some things, but this is his thoroughly conservative conviction 🏹
Archer had always been inclined to think that chance and circumstance played a small part in shaping people's lots compared with their innate tendency to have things happen to them. This tendency he had felt from the first in Madame Olenska. The quiet, almost passive young woman struck him as exactly the kind of person to whom things were bound to happen, no matter how much she shrank from them and went out of her way to avoid them. The exciting fact was her having lived in an atmosphere so thick with drama that her own tendency to provoke it had apparently passed unperceived. It was precisely the odd absence of surprise in her that gave him the sense of her having been plucked out of a very maelstrom: the things she took for granted gave the measure of those she had rebelled against.

It does create a nice nostalgic sheen over things. This was from Maine over the summer (iPhone reference from logbook; I use the excellent Lightme Logbook app combo)

We used to call the little panel of election maps and results on the NYT homepage the "Jim" or the "mini-Jim" depending on its size (named after the editor Jim Roberts). What's on the NYT homepage right now is the "giga-Jim?"

One of my favorite things about Apple Music is that if you digitize an album you can stream it even if it’s not on streaming services (I wish I could share with my family though)
