I get the concerns with AI as the savior of every problem, the training and copyright issues and ethics etc.
But as a tool for author feedback? Is it really that harmful?

In the case of being used to assess quality or reliability, peer review categorically fails - there's not exactly a shortage of evidence to that either. Yet so many people put enormous faith into that process.

Why not have multiple different methods of feedback?
We can only move forward by taking risks and trying things. They might not work. But if we're conscious and react appropriately to that then it's still significantly better than what we currently do

Kindness is too often missing from academia. There's some amazing scientists who are kind but it gets overshadowed by the (probably) minority who aren't.
Obvs not just academia but it does feel particularly unkind in the systems and people.

I've got a big metascience research program on the go, a new podcast under development, new YouTube efforts, multiple articles being written and so so much more!
My goal remains as it always was: to change scientific publishing, placing preprints at the core and realising their potential for change

@ripplingideas.bsky.social will allow me to continue all of this work either as a funded organisation or as one that I use alongside a different role.
I very much intend on remaining very active in this space; contributing my expertise, viewpoint and effort.

After being one of the biggest supporters for so long this is a heartbreaking end.
But I can look back and know that I had a hugely positive impact and gave/did all I could. I can look forward to having an even bigger impact, with organisations that align with my values.

6. I gave so many talks, wrote many many articles, designed a bunch of well recieved materials and appeared on a variety of podcasts.
I absolutely love talking about preprints and academic culture - so please do continue to reach out!

5. I did everything possible to ensure that ASAPbio remained on the right path; being responsible for the current strategic direction (at least the one on paper)

4. I redesigned the community programming to create a revamped Fellows effort and completely new initiatives (which I've not been able to see through sadly).
I had also been working on a new "advanced advocacy" program which would have been awesome in helping those who've been around for a while.

3. I trained over 240 people from across the world as part of the Fellows program and many additional trainings I delivered. This is always one of my favourite things to do.

2. I created the most successful YouTube content the org has ever seen as part of the 'lunch & learn' series.
People really responded to those so it was a shame I had to stop.
I also gave a revamp to the community calls, expanding them into wider topics, to great feedback!

1. I led ASAPbio to the most successful year (2024) it has had for growth, engagement and reach since at least 2020. As part of this I refined the values and fought to keep community at the core.
I achieved this simply by listening to what people needed and wanted.

The biggest acheivement was being able to empower and (hopefully) inspire others. I played a part in helping other people get passionate about preprints and lit a (small) fire for change. I will try to continue doing so however I can.
