IHHE faculty member Dr. Alison Elder is quoted in this microplastics article.

“The inhalation route is a major concern because if inhaled plastics can get into the deep lung and cause an inflammatory reaction, they don’t need to go anywhere to cause health outcomes.”

Your brain is full of microplastics: are they harming you?
Plastics have infiltrated every recess of the planet, including your lungs, kidneys and other sensitive organs. Scientists are scrambling to understand their effects on health.

Hey if you're HHS or elsewhere and have heard more, OR if you are an NIH or NSF grantee who has seen your funding actually move forward (or not!), I'd love to hear from you. Signal in bio.
Heard from a few more people who got this today. Inside NIH, there is some sense that it suggests compliance with the order; some grant money has maybe even started to flow to awardees again, I’m hearing.
From inside HHS, a court order sent around this morning telling agencies they can’t pause spending:

Dems. This is simple messaging. Musk demanded FAA head be fired; Trump did what Musk wanted. Now there's a deadly crash killing Americans because Trump is running America for the benefit of billionaires.

Repeat: Elon Musk demanded FAA head be fired and Trump did his bidding to benefit Musk not us.

Heard from inside the National Cancer Institute, part of NIH — travel through April is canceled. Purchasing with government card is frozen. All public comms are off limits. Can’t even submit abstracts to future meetings. Can’t submit *manuscripts* for publication. All hiring activity frozen. Fuck.

NIH withdrew several funding opportunities related to diversity. They’re not going to review the ones already in, and apparently they’re not going to pay the ones that have just been awarded.
