Should we drain Greenlake because some people get exposed to toxic algae?

I feel like people’s sarcasm/satire detectors just broke at some point in the last few years and haven’t recovered
September 6, 2025 at 7:04 PM
I feel like this is so clearly sarcastic
September 6, 2025 at 1:37 AM
“f Harrell wins, he would become Seattle’s first two-term mayor since Greg Nickels in 2009” does ANYONE read over these???
September 5, 2025 at 9:40 PM
Yeah I think 90% of the time I am v much against using LLMs (especially in school, which is ofc more relevant to my life right now) but for this kind of this it is quite useful and I don’t see much harm in it if you’re capable of fact checking
September 2, 2025 at 7:47 PM
Anyone of course has *the right* to decide who they talk to, but that doesn’t mean it’s always a good thing to do!

Like, the best hope we have for keeping people from becoming fascists is remaining in their lives despite arguments and shitty jokes. Be the pushback they wouldn’t otherwise get!
September 2, 2025 at 3:47 PM
I really don’t at all but believe what you want

Funnily enough my only (close) family member who I know voted for Trump is my 100% Chickasaw great-grandma who is pro-choice and pro-gay (religious, but very libertarian), and she did so primarily because she wants us to drill for oil/frack more!
September 2, 2025 at 3:45 PM
You keep putting words in my mouth — you should be critical and push back! I do it with my homophobic, antivax, and climate change-denying family all the time!

That’s very different than intentionally going no-contact
September 2, 2025 at 3:42 PM
A classic! Was my fav growing up and now I force my young cousins to play it (and will do the same if/when I have kids someday)
September 2, 2025 at 2:03 PM
Also if this is your analysis of the 2024 election then we will never win again.

Did the 54% of Hispanic men that voted for Trump do so because they were scared of brown people? Did the Muslim residents of Dearborn who abandoned Dems en masse do so because they’re all self-hating? No!
September 2, 2025 at 1:12 PM
Again, sad Trump voters are not the biggest problem we have.

But there’s no better way to radicalize people then to leave them in a bubble of like-minded people! And for better or for worse ~70% of the American doesn’t think politics should impact relationships — it hurts the left’s image a lot!
September 2, 2025 at 1:10 PM
Isn’t it fun that that’s just not what I said

Do I think voting for Trump is evil? Yes! Do I think “the worst thing in the world” is the fact that Trump voters are sad? No! I just think going no contact w/ longtime family and friends hurts the success of the left and fosters extremism.
September 2, 2025 at 1:03 PM
…people further into extremism since they seek love and support from people who almost certainly have even more destructive beliefs.

I suppose I just don’t believe that anyone is irredeemable, and I would hope my loved ones wouldn’t ditch me the second they started finding my views reprehensible.
September 2, 2025 at 1:00 PM
I think those are evil beliefs, but I do think maintaining truly unconditional relationships with some people in your life is an important and healthy thing to do

But most importantly I think it just makes the problem worse to cut those people off. All it does (as far as I’ve seen) is send…

I will personally be at Streamline if I’m in Seattle (my personal fav QAish dive bar)
September 2, 2025 at 7:32 AM
I don’t think they’re entirely irrational but I do think my life has been radically shaped by the fact that my parents had me at 24 and 25

Like, I still have two great-grandmas alive! Meanwhile some of my friends have parents turning 70!
September 2, 2025 at 7:29 AM
…and to me “I would go no contact with my family/longtime friends over politics” — especially for cishet people whose physical safety isn’t being threatened — is a belief that most Americans (including me!) find very off-putting
September 2, 2025 at 6:46 AM
Like imo one of the most Bluesky beliefs is that it’s good and reasonable to cut off your conservative/conspiracist/extremist family members

There was a poll recently where only 25% of Americans (but 40% of Harris voters!) said they would ever consider going no-contact w family over politics
September 2, 2025 at 6:43 AM
I think it’s a very specific type of progressive (and I don’t think it means being trans or anti-Zionist like many are saying, bcs Twitter is still very trans and has no shortage of anti-Zionists)
September 2, 2025 at 6:38 AM
lol who proposed this
August 31, 2025 at 6:46 PM
Like to me it’s pretty clear that well-planned rail is able to attract non-transit riders in a way that buses generally aren’t
August 31, 2025 at 9:16 AM
Idk I think WSLE is still worth it — if Downtown Redmond has shown anything, it’s that people reallyyyyy like stations that go to directly to walkable commercial centers
August 31, 2025 at 9:15 AM
Yeah the suburban ST3 extensions need to be blown up for the time being
August 29, 2025 at 7:58 AM
The Infatuation has a lot of shitty takes imo (especially their staff writer Aimee)
