Recalling the extensive table-ing for the “spread the word to ban the word” campaign from when I was in college, my reaction was “hmm seems like people are upset by this, hadn’t realized.”
At this point the GOP usage is vice signaling — agree it weeds out assholes!

Bad luck with timing - DC has some pretty nice hotels that vary from like $200 to approximately $1m depending on who’s in town.

I hadn’t seen that, thank you!! I recall someone here doing back-of-the-envelope math on altman’s idea, and it would have required an enormous percentage of the solar system’s matter. Absurd.

Mmmm yes, that’s better said. It’s consistent with the autodidact, “I can charge into any discipline and master it” attitude they’ve had for decades. And now they have a tool that can simulate the process of discovery faster than their subordinates can.

The Sam Altman (I think, not going to validate) conversation about co-designing a Dyson sphere was revealing — I think that a number of these guys think they’re capable of real, novel research and development at the frontiers of every scientific discipline. Just by talking to the robot.

I read him slightly differently — that the level in the US, UK, etc is ~30%, but that it can be in/decreased somewhat substantially. i.e., it’s not a immutable lifetime trait.
