The composer has a solid case. It is easy to pull up both pieces on youtube, and the first 15 second of each makes it clear: the "John 1" piece is derivative and the tune and how the words are used are from the earlier "The Word Was God" piece.
That they both use John 1:1 is irrelevant.

You can see the SNL sketch. A cottage industry springs up: watching movies for celebrities. It's like writing college essays for rich teenagers, but better pay. Same morals. They brag, I've seen the new Brad Pitt movie 67-1/2 times. That 1/2 was at the Roxie. The butter on their popcorn was racid!
