Everytime I see the "in today's political environment" type of line it makes my skin crawl. Not even a flimsy attempt to explain this as moral, or benficial to society somehow, just explicitly saying "we're going to suck up to racists now".

For those unaware, in 1933, the first major Nazi book burning was of the first 30 years of research into trans and queer people, far before the concentration camps.
