I signed the Resonant Computing Manifesto.

IMHO all efforts roughly in that direction are good and to be supported.

Technology should bring out the best in humanity, not the worst—a manifesto for resonant computing built on five principles that reject hyper-scale extraction for human flourishing.

"This function is identical to the ... function, except that the argument handling is even more complicated."

Nothing like a bit of motivational documentation on a nice Friday afternoon. Thanks, Python.

Is there some kind of switch I can flip where anybody who ever wants to call me Sir is prevented from doing that before they can open their mouth and ever after?

Is there a word for having explained very nicely in your documentation what the behavior is, but then you discover running your own code that you failed to actually write the code to implement that behavior?

P.S. It's not senility, I have been doing this all my life.

This slide from @j12t 's talk at #websocialbr is terrifying. "I fear for my children when they won't be able to tell what is true and what is not."

Okay, I got some slides for the first Brazilian Open Social Web event at their ministry of science, technology and innovation in Brasilia tomorrow, organized by @thiago and friends.

I'll be remote and they will provide simultaneous translation. Should be fun!

Fortunately @evanprodromou will be […]

Video recordings from the recent #eurosky summit in Berlin.

As usual at conferences for me, I had more fun in the side conversations than the presentations given from the stage, but still quite interesting.

Hard to believe I could write 100 syllables per minute in shorthand way back when. Now I can barely read anything at all!

It increasingly appears the “AI” industry in the US is going for a massive government bailout / partial nationalization.

How do you feel about a trillion or such of your taxpayer money going to ever larger … (insert your view of “AI” here)

Me? You’ve long lost the consent of this governed person.

Defendant, why did you start creating a slide presentation first thing in the morning on an otherwise perfectly fine Saturday?

Well, your honor, it had been going around in my head for a while, and I needed to get it out.

Defendant, are you sure you are entirely sane?

I spent some time with the European tech sovereignty crowd this month.

The below story, about a previous disastrous effort in the same direction, does not surprise me in the least.

If your "business plan" allows for this kind of failure, you better not start at all […]

When visiting my grandmother during the Cold War, fighter jets flying overhead so low you’d sometimes duck involuntarily, making you cover your ears and all conversation impossible, was a frequent occurrence.

Now Germany is reopening those areas for low flying practice again.

It was not fun […]

As website error messages go, this is a new one. I can only send messages to this airline that don't contain a period or a question mark? In other words, no English sentences? Or sentences in any other language?

I'm all in favor of self-hosting, but video calls need to pass a certain threshold of availability of audio and video, otherwise no productive calls can be held.

Wow, every now and then you see a first-rate analysis completely upsetting the prevailing beliefs and this is one about the US economy.

Must read.

This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result. TL;DR: the *actual* poverty line in the US for a family of four with two young children is about $140,000, and there isn't much improvement in quality of life between $40K and $100K. https://www.yesigiveafig.com/p/part-1-my-life-is-a-lie
