Bookish. Amateur philosopher of the worst kind. Political animal who still believes we can build a better world for all. Banner is the Red Sand sea bell, tolling.

Contemplating not being anonymous.

Standing up for Palestinians.
Spent the last 2 weeks reading the C J Sansom Shardlake series. 6 down, 1 to go.

Avoided them before because I had the idea they were religious. In fact they're rollicking yarns, page turners with lots of period detail and history, set during Henry VIII's reign. An escapist education.

Le Carre, A Delicate Truth

On the one hand, a rollicking yarn, a pacy page-turner (JLC would hate that description).

On the other, it rings all too painfully true - the corruption of high political and civil office by wealth and elitism.

He gives his own plot synopsis on p.275, here:

Crises are normal and soluble.

Something for my headstone.

Let's get a receipt in case of link rot

Two photos of the Pomeriai (Pomary) massacre, showing hooded victims led down into a mass pit.

Extremely redolent of pictures of hooded Gazans and mass pits created by the IGF.

To match with W H Auden, perhaps:

Oh What Is That Sound?

Aside: you were talking about international convergence...

Our own echo of this in the UK.

Nick Timothy MP appears to be justifying violence here. With a little plausible deniability just in case.

Naomi Alderman is "very happy always to have my ignorance corrected on any front".

Just not if it's basic, easily researched history of Zionism in the words of its own leaders.

History that explains how we reached a point of genocide in Gaza today.

She blocked me.

Matt Yglesias doesn't count. He was bringing democracy to the Middle East in 2002.

Don't be silly, Labour.

You support:

Demonising immigrants
Child poverty
Daft Chicago School economics
Genocide

and you think we'll come back?

Roll on #GE2029.

3) Here you are accusing Corbyn of antisemitism.

This was #Ironygate. Corbyn was referring to Richard Millett and Jonathan Hoffman, a lovely couple with far right links. I think Millett may have lost a court case about it.

The cream of British journalism somehow missed all that.

2) Here you are describing David Collier's work as "solid research". Collier is the arch accuser of antiracists.
September 4, 2025 at 10:30 AM
Itemise some of the things you've done in the past to ensure anti racists get called antisemites?

Challenge accepted.

1) calling Eli Aminov, Matzpen antiZionist, a foul racist.

"there is a really noticeable divide between who stayed and who didn't"

I stayed. It's still the only place to get the breadth of news on Palestine and other things established media is shallow on.

These were next to each other in my timeline today.

Bluesky can't compete, yet.

His point about speaking in a language ordinary voters understand is a good one, but I suspect Tom Nichols would add genocide to that list if he could.

"speeches have concluded. Afterwards a small group attempted to walk off, which would have been a breach of conditions, officers have put a cordon in place to prevent this"

It's an offence to leave the scene of a protest?

The depths to which this Labour government has sunk ...

And those who merely make a perfectly valid argument that you don't like?

Do you block people who use the word genocide?

And you have said #NeverAgain, right?

In the 21C, here we are.

Is that because when one notices a deeply racist, genocidal nationalist supremacist state the correct and moral approach is to condemn all other similar states first, before doing anything about the genocide?
