happy international men's day to all strange little dunces carrying a big handful of damp leaves for no reason obvious to anyone, not least themselves
A pile of maple leaves appeared on our deck out of nowhere last night. Mystery solved! #opossum we call Esteban.

Surprise, we're getting pretty close to the final version of REALIS!

ICYMI: I've been making a TTRPG about mystical moons and living spaceships and sentences that can kill you. A preview is available now (see my pinned post), but the full version draws near!

Playtime is great, overall might not be in my top 5, but I think the restaurant scene might be the best scene they ever put in any movie
the thing about playtime is that it's all so good but, contained within it, the restaurant scene is somehow an even better movie within the movie

Any bailout should go to where the negative impact is. Not the AI companies themselves, but construction companies who won't get their contracts completed, towns that suffer from the effect of massive, wasteful datacenters, universities, etc.

The AI companies MUST fall.
my hot AI take is that regardless of how we feel about it, bailing out the big AI companies may be *necessary* to avoid long-term systemic harm to real people

as always, the system acts too late to contain the blast radius

the united states of america will be remembered as a historically evil country that hastened the destruction of a livable world
This is quite a story: the US employed every strongarm tactic available, including personal threats against delegates and their families, to derail an agreement on reducing shipping emissions that was almost finalized. on.ft.com/47lq3dZ

As SNAP benefits are cut, this should be something we demand of state governors to do with their states national guard.

Food banks & other forms of community aid will feel the stress caused by these cuts. There will undoubtedly be understaffing and shortages, this is one way we can prepare for this
Now THIS is a mission the National Guard can be proud of. 🙌

Watching Jay, I realize I am simply exhausted by folks in positions of leadership who are driven to distraction by critique.

If you can't function with critique and pushback, a leadership position is not for you.

Leadership REQUIRES you to absorb and process the critique of stakeholders.

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

Discovering computer as an adult makes you go crazy. Discovering computer as a baby makes you go crazy. In all of human history, there will only ever be one generation to discover computer at the correct age: 13
The problem with every post-Millennial generation is they got to go straight to high speed internet. Of course you'll get computer madness that way. Make them start with those old screeching modems and work their way up

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.
