For my newsletter, I talked about the proposed teenage phone restrictions in the name of a murdered teenage trans girl.

(Noted this twice in the piece but again, I have no issue with Esther Ghey)

The trans girl murder victim's mom has turned her death into an unrelated political crusade against teenage phone use. Note: I want to be clear upfront that I have no issue with Esther Ghey, mother o...

Crunchyroll is destroying its subtitles for no good reason

A ton of research and effort went into this one. This is the article to read to get to the bottom of Crunchyroll's subtitle changes!

"And let's not forget the generous wartime donations made by the people of Bengal in 1943, for which Churchill expressed his gratitude!"

Question. Are British liberals capable of acknowledging the humanity of brown people without sounding like the gutter-dwellings hounds of a dead empire?
"Let's not forget, when we remember the service and the sacrifice with this poppy, that the people who bled and died for our democracy and our freedom, weren't just my grandfather who looked like me & worshipped the same God, but people across Empire & Commonwealth, who were Muslim, Sikh & Hindu'

Recommendations like those made by Healthwatch lead directly to cases like the trans woman I quoted yesterday who is having difficulty finding out how to get checked out for possible breast cancer.
Trans Safety Network have written to Healthwatch regarding their concerning recommendations in their trans health report. We fear if this report is not withdrawn, it will lead to significant deterioration in trans people's ability to access NHS care. transsafety.network/posts/danger...

It is a shocking indictment of rampant institutional prejudice & contempt for trans communities that Trans Safety Network are having to spend time critiquing the harmful actions of an entity, here Healthwatch, who is supposed to be advocating for trans people.

Today for @theverge.com, I talk about transfem narratives: the epistemic lockout from mainstream publishing, the advantages and pitfalls of the self-pub model, and what a global transmisogynistic panic implies for our ability to make our voices heard and represent our own lives and worlds.
Trans women are building their own publishing world, and it’s under threat
Online communities are stepping in where traditional publishing stops.

The instinct of this government is ever further restrictions on civil liberties. It is authoritarian at its core, and at this stage needs to be opposed by anyone who at all considers themselves a progressive.
NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.

If anyone is wondering why the NHS estimates are so out- they're not really an estimate of how long someone will wait but the amount of time the latest people accepted to the service have waited.
We are subjected to psychiatric pathologisation in return for two benefits: legal gender recognition (lol) and access to healthcare (lol). This coercive practice now only has any purpose for those of us who can’t afford to opt out.

Torture based on social and financial capital. That’s real Britain.

Frustratingly Labour will see this and still not realise no matter how much transphobia, racism etc they spew, the voters who want that are just gonna vote for obviously more racist and transphobic party and instead think they'll need to double down on being fascists and appeasing bigots.
Oliver Brown has been quiet for a couple of months but has clearly been away huffing more mould. This is in the sports section of today's Telegraph.

Lisa Nandy basically said some trans people could be included in some things and this is the response.

the linked article is a great breakdown of why Bluesky isn't actually decentralized despite all the noise to the contrary and why and doing what Jay wants us to do if we don't like their horseshit here—take our ball and go home—isn't feasible unless we've got a shitload of money
AT Proto has become a sort of ideological vaporware; a way for Jay Graber et al to run a social media platform while claiming they don't run a social media platform. This is just another iteration of the Silicon Valley monoproduct: power without accountability.
