Okay so, while I was writing down my big important thoughts about what the metroidvania genre "is", I started thinking a lot about how some of them will keep you from progressing in an area until you have a certain ability and the right and wrong ways to do that in terms of player experience.

If I don't see Louis fucking Cole on stage at the game awards destroying a drum set for The End of Time I will personally ensure that Geoff Keighley is tortured until the actual end of time
If I don't see Sam Gendel on stage at the game awards ripping the fuck out of the sax solo in Polyphemus's theme from Hades 2 I will personally see to it that Geoff Keighley is ejected into the sun
