Kant definitely comes in for it in my book. We’re starting to do a number on the “Enlightenment’s” role in whiteness/white supremacy, but we have a ways to go. The book is synthetic in nature and is meant for everyone to read. But i think i might have carried the ball downfield a bit

Yes, monogenism absolutely won the day. Polygenism had its adherents, but had the disadvantage of being slightly heretical, so it was a minority position until roughly the era I mentioned.

I hope you check out my book when it comes out in early 2026.

If I paint with a broad brush, while acknowledging exceptions, the species stuff tended to be later.

The borders are hazy, for sure, but in the English-speaking world, in the 1700s, the idea was that “nonwhite” peoples were sort of “historical losers,” but human. (They were degraded.) By something like the mid 1800s, and pretty completely by the turn of the 20th cent, they were a dif species.
