There is probably black lichen, too. :)
This was a small outcrop, but it was the only place to pull over. A mile or so northwest there is a mile or so of basalt outcrop covered with these brilliant lichen. :)
Google street view is all in the fall, when the lichen is dry. It's worth a spring drive.

My cat wakes me up 3 times a night at least because apparently she believes I will sleep better if she walks on my head to get to the other side of the bed.
She also hates the food I bought that isn't the paté because they were out so she's been complaining, loudly and often.

Do not pretend that broody hen will change her mind just because she was super unsuccessful for the first month and you kept taking away her eggs. She knows you are often away, and she will just keep busy until you get distracted (for 3 weeks).
