Tucker & Dale Vs Evil is quite possibly the best post 2000 horror comedy film. Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine are a great double act. This is a very well written satire of prejudice and miscommunication. Letterboxd review up shortly.

Played Call of Cthulhu today. My friend's character went out in a blaze of glory. After jumping in their 1920's Ford and flooring it they ran down servants of Gla'aki before ramping off their bodies flying into the air over a lake and smashing into the avatar of Gla'aki.

Watched Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy again. 'This is very much del Toro's take on Mike Mignola's characters and world. A visually stunning genre mash up of gothic romance, eldritch horror and pulp adventure.' Taken from my Letterboxd review.

Watched Sisu: Road to Revenge the other night. Jorma Tommila has possibly the most intense stare I've seen in film. There's some big Mad Max: Fury Road vibes in this, along with some big Road Runner vibes.

Just finished The Bloodsworn trilogy by John Gwynne. The setting of Vigrid is an impressive feat of world building. An engrossing immersive story with some memorable characters. Orka Skullsplitter, Varg No-Sense, Elvar Firefist and plenty more. #booksky 📚

Watched Bring Her Back last night. Sally Hawkins puts in an intense and dark performance. Jonah Wren Phillips is haunting as Oliver, a role with almost no dialogue at all. Somewhat undermined by the inclusion of scenes that are there in an attempt to shock and a wtf deus ex moment.

Played Condottiere for the first time. This is a neat little game, although it can be utterly ruthless. #boardgamesky 🎲

Anyone who lives in central Leeds will be familiar with the saga of the collapsed building on Lower Kirkgate. Neglected to the point of collapse by the private owner, this was April 2024, closing a road in the city centre for over 18 months. Now works have been further delayed.

Christopher Smith's 'Triangle' is one of those films that seems to be seriously underrated. Melissa George is outstanding here.

Wild Things is peak late 90's cinema. Sleazy, horny and trashy in the best way. Hard to believe it's from John McNaughton, the director of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. 🍿 🎬

Just seen The Running Man and it's fascinating how it pretty much sticks to the book, until it doesn't. The last 20 minutes or so is a mess that undermines everything that came before. The 1987 film is well known for being very different to the book, but it had an ending that worked.

Heavy Metal crowdfunding a 670 page library edition of Serpieri's Druuna. Binding on an omnibus this size is notoriously hard to get right. Dropping over £70 plus shipping on a book where half the art might be lost in the gutter is not ideal. #booksky #comics

Keep seeing ads for tours for contestants from Taskmaster series 20. This is for Ania Magliano. Then I remember they're sold out. *Shakes fist*.

Played Mycelia today. To quote my friend "it's like brutal Mushroom chess". Meticulously illustrated cards for mushroom species to go with multilayered game mechanics. Excellent component quality, a well designed box insert and all designed/illustrated by one person - J.J Neville. #boardgamesky 🍄

I think Saaniya Abbas would be great for Taskmaster. The logistics of filming it though probably explain why most contestants are UK comedians.

Taskmaster is such a cultural juggernaut now it undoubtedly alters the career trajectory of lesser known contestants.

Watched Together last night. Allison Brie and Dave Franco are great. The film isn't helped by marketing that really undermines its impact though. A baffling move from Neon.
