Johnson's Congress will of course be remembered for their groundbreaking work on fully stocking the National Gaslight Reserve.
Mike Johnson: "We've had one of the most productive Congresses in the history of the institution."

How humiliating. Claiming that a near octogenarian works more than you do when every media appearance of this supposed hard worker is him catatonic in public.
VARNEY: Do you work 18 hours a day?

MIKE JOHNSON: More. More. And I have to, because President Trump works 21 hours a day.

If there's a way to attack black folks, directly or indirectly, Trump will do it. Straight up racist shit all day long.
"The Donald Trump administration has changed which holidays qualify for free entrance to national parks, removing two holidays celebrating Black people and adding the president’s birthday."
National parks change prioritizes Trump birthday over days honoring Black people
Free entrance days at national parks no longer include MLK Day and Juneteenth.

This "Weekend At Bernie's" reboot is WILD
Trump dozes while Marco Rubio speaks to him directly next to him. Just insane optics.

That is some genuine, Grade-A American-made ahistorical fascist bullshit right there
this extremely fashy Trump cult of personality ad featuring Kristi Noem ran this morning on Fox & Friends

I have long felt that two core challenges need to be addressed:

1. Level off the top: tax the rich!
2. Raise the floor: more benefits for everyone else!

Showing that the real poverty line is much higher than the calculation suggests makes #2 a priority.
This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.

Trump is a monster. An absolute nightmare with zero regard for decency.
Trump: "Instead of pardons, some of my more enthusiastic staffers were already drafting the paperwork to ship Gobble and Waddle straight to the Terrorist Confinement Center in El Salvador."

NO

(To both the question posed on the cover and to the embarrassing frame of Killer Bobby as anything but a dangerous crank who's been given access to the tools to harm millions)
Over many interviews, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Michael Scherer about how he plans to remake America’s public-health system. Can he lead the scientific establishment he’s spent much of his life crusading against?

"THe Harder They Come" was a constant listen for kid me. It was in heavy rotation from the minute I learned to drop the stylus.
Rolling Stone ranked Jimmy Cliff's 'The Harder They Come' original soundtrack as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time: "This album took reggae worldwide."

We are heading to NYC in a couple of weeks just to see the Ruth Asawa show at MoMA.

So excited, we already bought the book at the MFA, after seeing the amazing work of Rachel Ruysch and Martin Puryear.

This is probably bad news for the "human in the loop" theory for checking and correcting machine behaviors and outputs.

Humans aren't guaranteed effective guardrails in human-AI collaboration because it's a SYSTEM and the parts influence each other; the human component doesn't stand alone.
Paper suggests users are “unaware of the extent of the AI’s influence, rendering them more susceptible to it … a mechanism wherein AI systems amplify biases, which are further internalized by humans, triggering a snowball effect where small errors in judgement escalate into much larger ones.” (2024)
How human–AI feedback loops alter human perceptual, emotional and social judgements - Nature Human Behaviour
Glickman and Sharot reveal a human–AI feedback loop, where AI amplifies subtle human biases, which are then further internalized by humans. This cycle, observed across various domains, leads to substa...

Trump has produced spectacular examples of utter failure, embodied, that in turn end up being new units of measure. For example, we were gifted a new unit of time, the Scaramucci.

Now we have the Halligan, the mass of a cubic meter of incompetence.
NEWS: During a hearing in federal court in VA, prosecutors confirmed that the operative indictment in the case against James Comey was never shown to or voted on by the entire grand jury before it was presented in open court.

Defense counsel argued that’s a complete bar to further prosecution

Why would they even make this available?!

We are so cooked
"Microsoft warns that Windows 11's agentic AI could install malware on your PC: 'Only enable this feature if you understand the security implications.'"

what are we doing here, exactly, how can you--anyone be okay with this?

Sadly, I will be out of town for MICE this year. Seems like I'm going to something awesome with this @alexandragallant.com reading.
Really excited to share that I will be part of the Science Comics Carousel at MICE this year on December 6th from 1-2PM. I'll be reading from my new comic, BRAINS, which is a love letter to the brain and a giant middle finger to AI and I hope to see you there! mice2025.sched.com/event/2Bdqa/...

Relearning a 3D printing lesson you'd think I would have gotten by now: shitty old filament makes it very hard to get good prints.

I've got two semi-ancient reels of PLA that I'd like to use up, but it just fails.
