One thing I will always give MonMon credit for. She has never been in it for the grift.

She might be horribly misguided (notwithstanding she was partially vindicated in her VicPol proceedings), but she has always seemed to have been acting based from whatever he baseline set of principles are.

Any journo openly calling Penny Chinese as a dogwhistle detracting from her Australian identity would rightly be ripped to shreads.

Any random in the street saying the same to her face would quickly discover how many of the random strangers in the crowd are actually plain clothes AFP officers.

His ancestor came in under a white Australia policy. I dont care enough to look up what Bob's precise view is, but if he thinks we should have limited immigration quotas, and also limited it to people who are likely to assimilate, that's consistent with his heritage.

You could make the point without mislabelling him, yet the "victim" in all of this couldn't. And then when their error was made clear, the same "victim" intentionally did it again. I'm cynical that an experienced journalist can't work out how not to intentionally mislabel someone.

As an example, Hansard from 7/10/1976 records an MP in Parliment interjecting that "It is a pity [Katter Snr] were not gone with [his] camel" Katter Snr responded by calling the MP a racist. Both requested the other to withdraw.

Only 1 was told to withdraw. I'm sure you can guess which. 7/7

Wild society has come from using ethnicity as a slur against the Katters, to expecting they carry a cultural identity they dropped 127 years ago as forever tied to them... and handcuff them to that racial label despite having 3 Queensland Colony born grandparents. 6/7
September 2, 2025 at 6:13 AM
Also FWIW, as much as people decry percieved hypocrisy, given his grandfather assimilated under a white Aus policy (as was expected 100 years ago), and his father has had an "Australian" cultural identity since birth, I'm not sure Bob is in any way a poster child for multiculturalism. 5/7
September 2, 2025 at 6:13 AM
FWIW, I'm not entierly sure how immigration policies from literally before federation, and naturalisation policies from before WW1, both decades before Bob was even born, are relevant literally over a century later in 2025... but each to their own. 4/7
September 2, 2025 at 6:13 AM
Also Bob identifies as Australian, as did his dad. I suspect the same of his grandfather who moved to the Colony of Queensland as a 16 year old. His 3 other grandparents were born in Brisbane. Thats more than good enough for me. You can ask the question without mislabelling his ethnic identity. 3/7
September 2, 2025 at 6:13 AM
If you fuck up somebody's ethnicity and they take offence, normal people would appolgise and move on, not double down. You dont get to sook it was unprovoked when, at best, it was tone deaf, and at worst, it was a line of questioning intentionally designed to provoke a racial based reaction 2/7

Same reporter asked a different Q which started with "Regardless of the country, there are people who have come here from other countries, like yourself" despite being qld born. Reckon Penny Wong would also take offence if journos started asking her questions opening with "As a Chinese woman..." 1/7

FWIW, in the improbable chance this did end in court, interested to know how comfortable Josh Bavas would be in the box facing questions about how innocent and friendly his question actually was, given Nine's own reporting that Bob "has a history of reacting angrily to questions about his heritage"
September 2, 2025 at 3:05 AM
I assume this is in response to Nine's similarly ridiculous suggestion it intended to sue Bob for the same thing.

Good to see the media giving the beat up another go, over something which is about 99.99999% certain yo go nowhere. State of our media is embarrassing.
Nine demands Bob Katter apologise for ‘aggressive behaviour’ towards reporter and considers legal action

Going a step further, I expect plenty of politicians posting the local cafe they last ate at, and the local businesses they use, is just being a good local member supporting local business in their electorate.
August 11, 2025 at 1:15 AM
Assuming its not a minister where the business represents a conflict of interest against their ministerial responsibilities, and no public money is spent doing it, can't see a reason why they can't make a personal endorsement or recommendation.

For all the debate about which sides are flat track bullies, I was not expecting the difference between best and worst percentage to be that tight.

Be interesting what the number is when the social media age verification laws kick in.
July 25, 2025 at 12:00 PM
If there should be a norm against such powers, they should be repealed (or tighter limitations when they can be used + further oversight of their use if this is lacking)

nb I don't have a view either way as I don't know the laws and powers you refer, just saying endless sunset extensions is BS
July 23, 2025 at 1:41 PM
About time Parliment makes a call rather than endless kicking the can down the road.
July 23, 2025 at 12:15 PM
Now we just need politicians to stop using RBA announcements for political point scoring, and the media to relegate the same to page 53 of the newspaper... but I'm not confident.
July 8, 2025 at 7:38 AM
Is there any reason why you couldn't weight it? A player with 1 career goal you take the baseline, a player with 500 goals you take their alpha. Baseline could also adjust to games played. I'm confident the baseline across all 200 game full backs with <5 career goals would be different to 1st gamers

To be followed by research on the declining effectiveness of clickbait headlines. I wonder how many outlets only focus on stats showing clickbait headlines get 3 extra views compared to non clickbait, but are unable to measure how many people they have lost because clickbait abuse burnt all trust.

If a colleague was churning out a months work in a day, but the quality of their work dictated they needed somebody to closely QA all their work, I'm keeping them, but I'm giving them work they are less likely to screw up, and having somebody closely supervise them.

Deeming is a symptom of a party with an identity crisis, clinging on to the belief their are a broad church center right party, when they have been overrun by the further right.

Until the party decides if/when it wants to return to the centre right, offloading her is just a bandaid on a hemorage.
