Terence McSweeney, MSc is a doctoral researcher at the University of Oulu and #ISSLS SoMe member. His advice for (fellow) young researchers: take a few risks and go out of your comfort zone whether that's by promoting your work, networking, learning a new skill, or tackling a new topic.

Key findings:
1️⃣ PHLPP1 increased in IVD degeneration; its deficiency decelerates degeneration.
2️⃣ NSC117079 reduces PHLPP1 expression, boosts NP cell proliferation, ECM & reduces apoptosis.
3️⃣ Activates AKT & inhibits NF-κB, suggesting that it promotes NP cell health.
