This is the same tom taken a few moments apart. The flock lives in my (very urban) neighborhood and he was hanging with his hens. 🪶

There's a point in macro photography when a flower starts looking like it's from another world, or even under the ocean. 📷🌿🌼

Ah, the fascinating #planthopper nymph, survives by mimicking an Alien Facehugger. Any casual garden predator would steer clear of this cutie for fear of an alien egg implant and eventual chest burstage. They've all seen the movies.

I've been calling my local great blue heron Frank for about a year now. The other day I heard a total stranger call him Frank. My work here is done. 🌿📷🪶

I will never get over bird legs.
My local bird patch fledged 11 raptors this spring

4 Cooper’s hawks
2 white-tailed kites
2 great horned owls
2 red-shouldered hawks

…and 1 red-tailed hawk

As they mature, they try different hunting techniques

This baby thought it could just pull a squirrel out of a hole standing next to it 🤦‍♂️📷🌿🪶

For centuries, scientists didn’t think birds had taste buds because they didn’t see papillae (tiny bumps on the tongue) where taste buds reside for humans. It was later discovered that birds DO have taste buds, but they are at the base of the tongue, or even on 1/x
