While he is not with us today, his legacy lives on in the hearts of all Indians. The Nawab of Bhopal, Hamidullah was irresolute and indecisive about accession to India. He was known to be critical of the Congress. He feared Nehru’s anti-monarchical stance, found Sardar Patel’s behaviour to be authoritative and thought of Gandhi to be a hypocrite for accepting the notion for India’s partition. He feared that acceding to India would somehow threaten communal peace in Bhopal and he also despised the idea of Bhopal being governed by the Congress.
