The nanoparticles were designed with specific peptides - that function as keys - that recognise brain receptors - a lock that is on the surface of the cells. Thus, nanoparticles coated with these peptides can "unlock" specific brain cells, directing the delivery of drugs and other therapies.

Misinformation is listed as the top risk in the World Economic Forum Global Risk Report 2025. This is a pressing issue for biomedical research and animal studies, where public debate is often shaped by inaccurate narratives or oversimplified arguments.

It was inspiring to see people living with #diabetes come together to learn about the critical contributions animals have made in the fight against diabetes. The day was filled with eye-opening discussions and powerful insights into how far we’ve come and how much more we can achieve.

The most rewarding day of 2024 - May, 6th
I had the privilege to take part of the organisation of the #DiscoveryDay, an @eara.eu initiative, that brought together the diabetes community and researchers from NOVA medical school to discuss the role of #AnimalResearch in advancing diabetes treatments

But here’s the crucial part: humane treatment is a cornerstone of ethical animal research. Every study undergoes rigorous review to minimize the number of animals used and ensure their care meets (or exceeds!) strict welfare standards. 🐾❤️ #AnimalWelfare

Why does animal research matter? 🐭🔬 It’s a question we as scientists get a lot, and it’s an important one to address. Here's a thread explaining how animal studies drive biomedical breakthroughs and how we ensure humane treatment every step of the way. #AnimalResearch #Transparency

Science is 99% figuring out why your experiment failed and 1% triumphing like a superhero 💥🧪

Sometimes, we win, and sometimes, we learn. Weeks have passed, and I still can't get the protocol to work.

Curious about the humane side of biomedical research?
This is what 90% of my time looks like when I am at the animal facility 🥰
Lots of cuddles and bounding to ensure that stress is kept to a minimum.
