The fantastic spire of St Botolph’s without Aldgate. The current church dates to 1741 replacing one which survived the Great Fire. It also survived the Blitz and has a dedication to those that lost their lives in the worst night of the Blitz. #SteepleSaturday

For #steeplesaturday the Guild Church of St Margaret Pattens in the City of London. A church has been on the site since c1067 and the current church was designed by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire. It has been a Guild church since 1954.

I’m somewhat struck by the similarity to Mithras and the Tauroctony which is even more interesting considering proximity of the sites. Or I could just need more tea!

The St Mary’s Abbey statues for #Sundaystonework. Originally carved for the wealthy Benedictine abbey ten surviving statues were found face down in mud, thought to form the foundations of a new church. Now in the Yorkshire Museum. 📷 my own. #medieval #archaeology
