Dr Alison Johnston develops & applies analytical methods to extract reliable information about biodiversity. She is particularly interested in how we can maximise the use of citizen science data and through this, how we can also learn about how humans engage with nature.

His main interest are the mechanisms that determine ecosystem functions and diversity patterns, at the community scale as well as at biogeographical and evolutionary scales; Machine learning and its relation to (Bayesian) statistical methodology, conservation biology and ecological theory in general

It was conceived as an applied research organization, a promoter of basic research, which compiles and generates information on biodiversity, develops human capacities in the area of biodiversity informatics, and serves as a public source of information and knowledge accessible to all of society.

México is a mega diverse country - between 10 & 12% of the world’s species can be found in its territory. CONABIO's mission is to promote, coordinate, support & carry out activities aimed at understanding biological diversity, as well as its conservation & sustainable use for the benefit of society.

More generally, Mevin has authored 3 books and more than 160 scientific publications in the areas of Bayesian and spatio-temporal statistics with applications in ecology, epidemiology, and environmental science.

He was elected fellow of the American Statistical Association in 2017.

Her lab is interested in how climate, species interactions, & global change drive infectious disease dynamics in humans & natural ecosystems. Projects cover:

- environmental drivers of vector-borne disease
- temperature effects on vector-transmitted diseases
- pathogen impacts on plant communities

He focuses on building theory by translating biological hypotheses to mathematical models, using modern inference to fit them to population, demographic, behavioural and physiological data, and applying the conclusions to wildlife conservation, natural resource management and risk assessment.
October 28, 2025 at 3:56 AM
Previous workshops covered models for eDNA, animal movement, hierarchical Bayesian models, NIMBLE, Stan, INLA, space/habitat use, species distribution models, generalized additive models!

We're open to similar workshops + machine learning, AI topics.
